I Skipped Yoga Today

I wish there was some great elaborate reason or a twist on this blog to make skipping yoga some deeper approach to living.

But it isn’t.

I could do the laundry list of standard excuses:

I had an early morning Kiwanis Board Meeting
I didn’t sleep well the night before
I had another project to complete before an event next week

But the honest truth is yoga is a reality check that is tough for me to swallow.

In the past few years as I’ve struggled with the ups and downs that greeted me in life, I’ve let my fitness and general health decline. I sat too long on planes and spent less time stretching and working out.

I go to yoga now and I realize how far behind I’ve fallen. I let a bunch of outside noise dominate my headspace.

Do you ever feel this way?

The irony is that a major point in yoga is to let go of some of this outside noise and to focus on your presence in that moment. I don’t know all the official yoga language, but I feel it’s a bit about connecting to your capacity.

How often do we let those outside voices limit our capacity?

How often do we press pause on our process because we’re not moving fast enough?

My flexibility is pretty shot right now, but I alway feel amazing at the end of the yoga class, just as all of us feel amazing after we’ve tackled that big project, that big challenge, that thing that hangs in the distance.

So let’s take another step in that positive direction right now. I’m going to spend some time stretching at home once I post this blog and maybe you can take 5 minutes to pick up that book you need to read, send that email you’ve been waiting to send, or just think about what capacity you have to achieve in the coming week.
