Rock Stars

I spent this past week with the California Association of Directors of Activities–basically the cool people who work with activity and leadership programs across my home state and really across the country. It’s always a really fun event. I meet so many of these talented individuals throughout the year, and I really enjoy the chance to reconnect.

There are three speakers at the convention. This year, Scott Greenberg, a good friend of mine and someone who has really helped me break into the speaking business performed at the 3rd general session on Friday. It’s a pretty important speaking slot. Two talented speakers had already presented before Scott. It’s an honor to just be selected to speak at the event–I figure I’m still at least a decade away at the earliest–but it’s also a major challenge because the audience doesn’t expect you to be good–they expect you to be GREAT.

I’ve seen Scott Greenberg speak several times over the past few years (he’s one of the few speakers I often crisscross paths with), but on Friday, I saw him hit one WAY out of the park. It was the best I’d ever seen him speak.

He was real

He was fun

He had a message

and he ended with a ROCK SONG

Scott composed an original song for those in attendance. The crowd loved it. Seriously, on Friday, Scott was a rock star. He took his talent–speaking–and did it the best he knew how…

I thought I’d briefly mention a few other Rock Stars I’ve seen recently:

My brother Dave went to the Sundance Film Festival to help debut a feature film he edited.

My sister Mary sang beautifully at her Junior recital showing how much musical theatre songs can move an audience.

My sister Jane is balancing a full-time job at an ER with applications for a Master program in Social Work–showing how to be a ROCK STAR in service.

My friends at the Boomerang Project are beginning a wonderful card campaign to encourage acts of kindness (www.boomboomrevoultion.com)

Patti, my breakfast waitress at the Town & Country, showed how you can bring smiles to people every day. I’m looking forward to seeing her again when business brings me back down to San Diego at the end of the month.

My activity director friends Denise & Sandi put together a GREAT convention in San Diego.

Another speaker friend, Justin Boudreau, is launching a program all about GRATITUDE and having people recognize those in their life.

I’d love to hear about the ROCK STARS in your life. Please post them as comments to this bulletin. Let’s celebrate those who ROCK our WORLD. If you want to be a part of Justin’s program, call the toll-free number at 1.800.501.5029 and leave a message about who or what you are grateful for.

Congratulations to SCOTT GREENBERG (www.scottgreenberg.com). He is an amazing speaker and an amazing friend.

Now let’s all go be ROCK STARS
