Technology::Week 1 (Summer11)

It’s time to get organized.

We see a bunch of links. We see things in daily life. We work on multiple projects at the same time.

And yet, so much of it is lost.

Again, it’s time to get organized.

It’s time to get familiar with Evernote, an incredible program available for free.

Evernote allows use to organize on a cloud. You can go across multiple devices, uploading a picture from your cell phone, attaching a Word document from your computer, and linking a great article from your favorite blog from your iPad.

I love the program so much that I already wrote a Toolbox a blog about it. I’d also encourage you to check another great blog entry by my friend, Matthew Soeth.

Get familiar with the program. Get active on the program. You’ll love the results.

So you have a 3.5 assignments this week:

Assignment #1

Install Evernote on your computer. Again, the program is free and it’ll change the way you use your computer.

Assignment #1.5

Install Evernote on any other device you regularly use. Right now I mainly use my iPhone and my laptop. I plan to get an iPad this fall and will put Evernote on that as well. The real power of Evernote kicks in if you can also use it with your mobile device. If you don’t have a Smart Phone right now, that’s okay. Just get used to using it on your computer.

Assignment #2

Set up a basic plan on how you’ll use it (at least for now). Different notebooks and tags become quite powerful, but you definitely want a starting place so you can find things quicker. You’ll need to decide what works best for you.

For example, if you’re doing all parts of Summer School, you might want to set up a “Summer School” notebook, and also have the tags “State,” “Mind,” and “Technology.” You could set up a notebook for your different classes at school, your different organizations, and/or your different projects. I’d even consider setting up a “fun” notebook, that has a “funny” and/or “inspirational” tag where you can place great things you find on the internet or a photo you captured on your iPhone.

Assignment #3

Share your thoughts and strategies in the facebook discussion page.

Thanks for participating in Summer School 2011!
