Forgetting Musical Chairs

On my drive to the airport today, I listened to a comedian talk about Musical Chairs.

You know, that popular childhood game where you fought for the right to sit down. Her joke was that every American invention (car, airplane, etc) was just a variation on the chair.

It got me thinking…

Why are we fighting for the right to sit?

I remember when I used to play–striving to sit first, doing the quick slide lounge to secure a space.

So that I could sit.

When you lost in Musical Chairs you stood on the sidelines, still doing nothing.

It was a game where you sat, or a game where you stood silently.

And I think it is time we realize–THAT game is over.

Today, our world needs people willing to STAND UP for something. To STAND UP for those that need a voice. To STAND UP for those rights we cherish. To STAND UP against cruelty in all its forms. To STAND UP against apathy, ignorance, and hatred.

We need people to stand.

So stop fighting for that chair to sit in. Stop simply standing on the sidelines.

STAND for something.
